About

Do you have a product, service or event you want to market to others? Then this blog is for you.

The key to the success of any venture - be it a product, service or event - is marketing.

It doesn't matter how great something is, if people don't know about it, they won't buy it.

But it's intimidating, I know. A friend who just launched a business says she hates "bugging" people about her product and marketing was going to be expensive.

Truth is, marketing can be fun and simple.

On this blog, I'll share my real-world experiences as well as things I'm learning from marketing books and experts. No jargon. On a level you and I can relate to.

Who am I and why do I want to help you?

My name is Jewel Allen, and I am a journalist passionate about all things marketing.

I have always worked in marketing and sales, starting with my first college job, when I called people all day to line up donation coordinators on their block. To put myself through college, I solicited donations for my university's alumni association, among other jobs.

By the time I graduated with a bachelors degree in English, I got really good at writing, as well as asking people for money on the phone.

My first job out of college, I recruited volunteers and put on fundraisers as the marketing director for an at-risk youth mentoring program. When my first child was born, I quit this job and worked from home as a freelance journalist.

Still, I stayed involved with non-profit marketing. Over the years, I have organized fundraisers for numerous groups.

I loved the challenge of starting with a zero budget and making thousands of dollars in profit for a good cause. I loved helping get a speaker who normally charges $80,000 to do it pro bono. I loved motivating volunteers to take a chance on a fun idea and take it from concept to completion.

These same principles also apply to the profit sector.

You have a great idea or product and I want to help you make it known to others.

Why? Because these are the things I wish I'd known early on.

Are you ready to learn along with me? Then buzz on over!
